In our new Faculty Contract, a provision in the Department Workload Policy specifies that all probationary (pre-tenured) faculty receive at least one course release before tenure. But you must request it! If you haven’t yet gotten it, email your chair now!

The release will not be assigned automatically. Pre-tenure folks, be sure to make this request. We recommend you make it in writing via your ilstu email. If you are submitting your tenure documents this fall, be sure to request your course release for the 2026 spring semester! Details about this provision can be found in the Contract, section F under 30.02 on page 46.
