Key things to note
Section 26.02: Progressive discipline includes four (4) steps: verbal warning, written warning (which may include a remediation plan), suspension (with or without pay), and dismissal. In most cases, discipline will follow these steps linearly; however, depending on the nature and/or severity of the offense, ISU Administration can modify them.
At the start of the semester, the creation of the Suspension and Dismissal Review Panel should begin (Section 26.06).
There will be a Panel Pool, which will consist of one (1) tenured faculty members elected from each department/school each serving terms of two (2) years (no more than two (2) consecutive terms).
If a faculty member requests a hearing about intended discipline that would result in a suspension (with or without pay) or dismissal, a Preliminary Panel will be created from the panel pool. After UFISU and ISU Administration have the opportunity to strike names from the list and after panel members with conflicts of interest recuse themselves, a 5-person Suspension and Dismissal Review Panel will be created and hold a hearing.
Is it grievable?
Much of this article is not directly grievable. However, a faculty member may file a grievance if any part of the process outlined in this article is not followed. For instance, they cannot file a grievance because they are under investigation, but they can file a grievance if they were given fewer than seventy-two (72) hours’ notice that an investigation is beginning (26.03.A).
